About boss

I paint using several reference sources: real life, photographs, and my imagination. Sometimes I use a combination of sources. In Garden Play, I used my view of my deck, and photos of my dog Tila, who has long outgrown puppyhood, and some flowers and pots from my imagination, as it was not yet spring when I painted it. I hope you enjoy what you see.

Musing about the Ocean

Rather than a snowy winter we have had a wet one.  I think all that water inspired my muse to think about the ocean.  Here are some watery thoughts for you!

As I painted this theme it became more and more abstract

Arteza Water Color Brush Pen Review

My husband always spoils me and for Christmas he gave me a huge set of Arteza Brush pens.   I’m mainly an oil painter but I love to dabble in other mediums.

I found the colors a bit strong but you can blend and dilute them with a brush with water.  The set does come with a little brush that holds a reservoir of water.

I found that it was hard to blend the intense color if you wanted a more delicate background such as this sky.

Here we are half way through.

The finished painting, a cabin in the Finnish woods.

I tried to do a second painting after this, that involved a lake, a dock and some boats.  The dock was grey and I had already used up most of my neutral colors above.   After I didn’t like the dock, I tried to cover it with water, and the paint was translucent and wouldn’t cover up the white/partially painted greyish dock.    So I’ve found they tend to give up the ghost rather quickly.

Owl Power!

I have to admit, I like painting and drawing owls.  They will not be my finest artwork but they are the most fun!

Here is one I did while gallery sitting at Muscoot Farm, where some of my owls were in a show.  I used my Derwent Inktense Water color pencils, I used a brush with water to blend them and then later when I got home, outlined bits in black ink to make it pop.

I have to admit I was a little miffed when Odd Birds in the Family Tree ended up in a dark hallway!  Here I am bringing a few canvases to the show:

And poor Odd birds ended up alone here:

But my Muse salved my miffedness when another art organization I belong to, asked for a donated canvas, they provided the canvas and then it was donated and sold to help support the organization.  And what was the theme?  BIRDS!   So here is Owl Power!

I did he background in acrylic and the owl in Oil paint.

And that is how art sometimes comes into being!

Big Ben

Finally completed, I present to you The Elizabeth Tower, renamed in 2012 to mark the diamond jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. Big Ben, is the largest bell within it and weighs 16 tons.

I’ve decided to add Big Ben to the Dining room.  🙂 Here are a couple of in-progress photos.

Love Under The Silver Moon

Rooted in Color

Sometimes you meet a tree and it speaks to you.

My original encounter with the tree was when I took this photo:

Brewster, NY- A History of Now

The first painting completed in 2018. This is oil on canvas and the title is “The Last Customer” It is of Bob’s Diner in #Brewster, NY. I’m painting some of the buildings that will be demolished when they build our new town center in a couple of years, as we will not see their like again. Small theaters, 50’s diners, and Pool Halls.

Brewster, New York is a village within the Town of Southeast.  They are going to renovate the village in late 2018-19.   They will knock down several historic buildings, including a 50’s Diner (Bob’s Diner) a Pool Hall and the old Cameo Theater.  I plan to paint them each before they are gone.

Here is an in-progress sketch of Bob’s Diner interior.  I will add more works as I go along

Seven Days of My Life in Black and White Photos

You may have seen the little game going around where you post seven photos, in black and white, of your daily life. No pets or people are allowed. You are invited to play as well. Don’t tell anyone anything about them. The image must tell the story by itself.

The Wild Hunt

As the veil thins at Halloween (Samhain) the gods and goddess and beings between gather for the wild hunt. “The Wild Hunt”.
